Malacañang urges Filipinos to support VP-elect Sara Duterte

By GMA News

Malacañang on Sunday urged Filipinos to support Vice President-elect Sara Duterte as she is set to take her oath as the country's 15th VP.

“We once again express our deep gratitude to the Filipino people for the trust and support they have given to the Vice President-elect,” acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar said in a statement.

“Let us stand behind Vice President-elect Duterte and all other newly elected leaders as they embark on the responsibilities and challenges of their offices and fulfill their mandate of delivering genuine change to our beloved country,” he added.

Duterte on Saturday said her inauguration speech would be short given the unpredictability of the weather.

She said that the speech would “just be [about] rallying the entire country to what we should do and focus on.”

Duterte’s inauguration will be held in her family’s bailiwick, Davao City. She will be sworn into office as the 15th vice president of the Philippines by Supreme Court Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando.

The inauguration will be held at San Pedro Square starting at 3 p.m. and will end at 11 p.m. The public will be allowed in the area beginning at 2 p.m.

Sara's father, President Rodrigo Duterte, and her running mate President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. are expected to attend.

The event will start with a thanksgiving Mass at 3 p.m. at the San Pedro Cathedral to be attended by Archbishop Romulo Valles.

This will be followed by the inaugural ceremony at 4:30 p.m. at the stage area.

A musical concert will then cap the event. —Mel Matthew Doctor/KG, GMA News
