Marcos family to stay at Bahay Pangarap — envoy

By ANNA FELICIA BAJO,GMA News

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has chosen Bahay Pangarap as his official residence, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez said on Friday.

Marcos was sworn in as the country's 17th president on Thursday.

"I think, from what I've told, the First Family will be staying in the Pangarap which is on the other side of the Palace. It's been renovated right now, in the meantime they're still staying in another place but Mrs. Marcos has always stayed in her own place all these years... I'm talking about Mrs. Imelda Marcos," Romualdez, a relative of the new president, told CNN Philippines.

Bahay Pangarap is located inside Malacañang Park, which is on the opposite side of the Pasig River fronting the presidential palace.

Its complex used to be the recreational retreat of former presidents, which was introduced during the time of the late President Manuel Quezon in 1936.

During their time in office, former presidents Rodrigo Duterte and Benigno Aquino III resided at Bahay Pangarap.

Meanwhile, Romualdez is confident that Marcos will do "extremely well" in leading the country in the next six years.

"I've always seen him to be an extremely intelligent person, very perceptive and very astute and now more than ever, I can see that he really sees how he will run the presidency," Romualdez said.

"I think that he will do extremely well because he's highly motivated by 31 million people [who voted for him] and he would really likely be able to make a mark in the country's future," he added. —VBL, GMA News
