PCOO won't comment on Imelda's birthday, says it will only issue statements on matters of public interest

Malacañang on Sunday said it would not release details about the birthday celebration of former First Lady Imelda Marcos, mother of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said it will only issue statements on issues where public interest or welfare is involved, GMA News' Ivan Mayrina said on Twitter.

The PCOO made the announcement after the Malacañang Press Corps asked for details and photo releases on Imelda's birthday celebration.

The former first lady celebrated her 93rd birthday on Saturday, July 2.

The President on Saturday posted greetings on Instagram for his mother.

"I join the country in greeting our mother the happiest of birthdays! We wish you continued health, blessings, and joy," Marcos wrote.

The former first lady celebrated her 93rd birthday in Malacañang, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Monday.

Ilocos Norte 2nd District Representative Angelo Marcos Barba shared on Facebook some photos taken during her birthday party.

Marcos took his oath of office before Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila as the Philippines’ 17th president last June 30. Imelda attended the event together with other family members.
