Philippines' new COVID-19 infections hit five-month high

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday recorded 3,389 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily tally in the past five months.

This was the highest daily count since February 12 when the Philippines posted 3,792 new infections.

The country has so far posted 3,745,375 cases while active infections climbed to 24,478 from 22,207

on Thursday.

Among the top regions with cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 11,112 followed by Calabarzon with 6,592, Central Luzon with 3,007, Western Visayas with 2,309, and Central Visayas with 1,222.

The number of people who have recovered from the viral illness in the country has increased to 3,660,241, while 15 more fatalities have raised the death toll to 60,656.

A total of 21,658 individuals were tested for the coronavirus on Thursday, while 329 testing laboratories submitted data.

As of Thursday, there were 7,109 beds occupied nationwide and 21,899 beds unoccupied, for a bed occupancy rate of 24.5%. —VBL, GMA News
