DOH logs 4,439 new COVID-19 cases, highest one-day tally in almost 6 months

The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday logged 4,439 new infections, the highest single-day tally in 25 weeks, or since February 10.

The active cases also rose to 34,213 from 31,992 on Wednesday, based on the DOH’s latest figures.

The Health department said the new infections brought the Philippines’ caseload to 3,790,309.

The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded 14,879 new cases in the recent two weeks, followed by Calabarzon with 9,507, Central Luzon with 4,673, Western Visayas with 2,707 and Central Visayas with 2,061.

At least 2,208 more patients recovered, adding the recovery tally to 3,695,323, while the number of deaths also increased to 60,773 with 11 new deaths.

The DOH said at least 23,153 individuals were tested, while 324 testing laboratories submitted data as of August 8.

The nationwide bed occupancy rate slightly increased to 29.8%, while the number of beds occupied were 8,525, while 20,067 were vacant. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
