Philippines logs 4,701 new COVID-19 cases, active tally hits 37,189

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday logged 4,701 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide caseload to 3,795,008.

This was the highest daily tally since February 7, when 6,835 cases were recorded.

Active cases now stand at 37,189, up from 34,213

on Thursday.

The top regions with cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 15,041, followed by Calabarzon with 9,852, Central Luzon with 4,775, Western Visayas with 2,735, and Central Visayas with 2,132.

More patients have also defeated the viral disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,697,045.

With one additional fatality, the death toll slightly increased to 60,774.

On Thursday, coronavirus tests were carried out on 23,279 people, and 325 testing laboratories submitted their results.

As of August 4, the national bed occupancy rate was 29.6%, with 8,444 beds occupied and 20,088 vacant. —VBL, GMA News
