DOH logs 4,182 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 40,016

The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday recorded 4,182 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total nationwide caseload to 3,831,941.

This is the fourth straight day with more than 4,000 new infections.

Based on the DOH’s latest data, the country’s active cases slightly decreased to 40,016 from 40,324 on Saturday. However, this is the third straight day with more than 40,000 active cases.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said that Metro Manila's positivity rate went down to 16.4% on August 12 from 17.5% on August 6, a possible indication that cases in the national capital region may have already peaked.

The positivity rate refers to the percentage of people who test positive among the total number of individuals tested.

The number of recoveries climbed to 3,730,889 while the death toll rose by 44 to 61,036.

According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 15,767 followed by Calabarzon with 10,044 and Central Luzon with 5,265.

The Health Department said at least 22,008 individuals were tested, while 310 testing labs submitted data on August 13.

It said that the bed occupancy in the country was 30.5%, with 8,787 beds occupied, while 20,042 were vacant. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
