Pope Francis names Tagle special envoy to Asian bishops' meet

Pope Francis has named Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle as special envoy to a bishops' conference to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, in October, according to an Unang Balita report on Monday.

Citing the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, the report said Tagle will preside over the closing Mass of the 50th general conference of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conference (FABC) at the Assumption Cathedral on October 30.

The 19-day meeting, which will begin on October 12, will be held at the pastoral center of the Archdiocese of Bangkok.

Tagle headed the FABC's Office of Theological Concerns for several years while he was still archbishop of Manila before he was appointed to the Vatican dicastery. —KBK, GMA News
