NGCP lifts Yellow Alert on Luzon grid

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) lifted the Yellow Alert on the Luzon power grid at 8:01 p.m. on Monday due to the "receding system demand."

The grid had been placed on Red Alert during the afternoon due to zero ancillary service or a deficiency in power generation, with the NGCP reporting available capacity of 10,693 megawatts versus the peak demand of 9,933 megawatts.

The NGCP explained that the Red Alert was due to several power plants encountering issues together with a transmission line being  tripped during the weekend.

The plants had difficulty returning to the grid.

However, the Red Alert was lowered to a Yellow Alert at 5 p.m., three hours ahead of schedule.

A Yellow Alert indicates that the grid has thin reserves based on supply and demand. — DVM, GMA News
