2,117 new COVID-19 infections logged; active cases at 28,872

The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday recorded 2,117 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total nationwide caseload to 3,953,886.

Sunday’s total came after 3,822 infections were tallied on Saturday.

Based on the DOH’s latest data, the country’s active cases decreased to 28,872 from 29,525 on Saturday. This is the fifth straight day with fewer than 30,000 active infections.

The number of recoveries climbed to 3,862,001 while the death toll rose by 32 to 63,013.

According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 14,119 followed by Calabarzon with 5,644 and Central Luzon with 2,940.

The Health Department said at least 15,945 individuals were tested, while 323 testing labs submitted data on October 1.

It said that the bed occupancy in the country was 24.9%, with 7,171 beds occupied, while 21,634 were vacant. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
