NGCP places Luzon grid under yellow alert

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Thursday placed the Luzon power grid under yellow alert, following the forced outage of several power plants.

In an advisory, the NGCP said the Luzon grid will be on yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A yellow alert indicates that the grid has thin reserves based on the difference between supply and demand.

“Five power plants are on forced outage, while three others are running on derated capacities, for a total of 2,115 megawatts unavailable to the grid,” the NGCP said.

The Luzon grid has an available capacity of 11,166 MW against a peak demand of 10,455 MW.

In a separate advisory, the company said the yellow alert for the grid has been lifted

“As of 1:00 p.m., yellow alert for the Luzon grid is lifted by NGCP due to increase in generation capacity,” it said. —Ted Cordero/KBK, GMA Integrated News
