The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday said it has opened the application for special permits for additional bus units to be deployed during the Christmas season.

At a televised public briefing, LTFRB executive director Robert Peig said the board has coordinated with concerned agencies in light of the security and operations in terminals during the holiday season.

“Kasama rin po 'yung pagbubukas natin o pagbibigay po natin ng special permits para po sa ating mga buses para po mag-complement doon sa dami ng ating mga pasahero na uuwi sa kanilang mga probinsiya,” he said.

(Also included is the opening of application and issuance of special permits for buses to complement the volume of passengers who will go to their provinces.)

Peig added that the LTFRB is preparing for the “exodus” during the holiday season in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Inter-Agency Council for Traffic, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and local governments.

In November, the MMDA said the Christmas rush will add 10%-20% to the traffic volume.

The PNP said around 190,000 of its personnel would be deployed to ensure public safety during the Christmas season.
