Baguio to ease restrictions starting Aug. 31; passes not needed to enter establishments
The local government unit of Baguio City said it will ease restrictions imposed amid the COVID-19 threat starting Monday, August 31.
Mall schedules will be suspended beginning Monday. This means residents need not present mall and market passes to enter private commercial establishments, Mayor Benjamin Magalong said in an advisory posted on Facebook on Saturday, according to GMA News reporter Corinne Catibayan on Dobol B sa News TV on Sunday.
Those going to the city's public market, however, will still have to follow the assigned schedule per district until further notice.
Magalong said residents—even senior citizens—may go out of their homes to avail of essential goods and services or to work, but everyone should still observe health standards and protocols.
"Families may go out, but please be mindful of our health standards and protocols. If it is not essential, or if it is to an area where your family members may be exposed to risk of COVID-19 transmission, then let us err on the side of caution and just stay home," he said.
"Greater care should be afforded to senior citizens and immunocompromised persons, to ensure that they have minimal exposure to health risks," the mayor said.
The liquor ban will be lifted starting Tuesday, Sept. 1. However, Magalong urged residents to drink responsibly and in moderation.
The mayor also gave these reminders to residents:
- Refrain from sharing glasses and utensils, and drinking excessively.
- Socialize, but with social distancing
- Keep guards up, apply minimum health standards.
- Wash hands, change clothes before spending time with family.
- Disinfect door knobs and other frequently touched surfaces at home.
- Monitor family members for flu-like symptoms.

As of Saturday at 6 p.m., Baguio City has recorded 87 active cases.
The city’s total confirmed COVID-19 cases meanwhile reached 334 as of Saturday. Of this number, 239 recovered while eight died.
Eighteen areas in Baguio City remain under lockdown as of Sunday to address the threat of COVID-19.
