2 missing in cargo vessel mishap in Zambales rescued —PCG

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Sunday said the two persons who went missing after a cargo vessel ran aground in shallow waters off Masinloc, Zambales on Saturday have been rescued.

“For info, na-rescue na po ang boat captain at chief mate (the boat captain and chief mate have been rescued) as of 05:45 p.m.,” the PCG told reporters.

The ship's captain was identified as Allan Boyboy and the chief mate as Felix Gepillano Jr. Both remained on the vessel when it ran aground.

On Saturday, LCT Aviva 80 ran aground off Barangay Bani due to strong winds and big waves, according to the PCG.

Initially, only 22 of the 24 crew were rescued and were brought to the Rural Health Unit of Masinloc town. They were declared in good health condition, the PCG said.

PCG's Marine Environmental Protection Group in Zambales said there was no trace of oil spill around the area where the vessel was stalled. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
