Rubber plantation worker shot, killed at Lamitan home

A 52-year old worker at a rubber plantation was shot and killed over the weekend by a still unidentified assailant while he was at his house's terrace in Barangay Campo in Lamitan, Basilan.

The victim was identified as Bhis Isnayan Asdali. He succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds from bullets fired from a Garand riffle.

Local police have yet to identify the motive of the killing.

Meanwhile, Basilan police said there was an honest error when a spot report of the Lamitan police identified as Bhis Isniyan Yumol Asdali and gave rise to reports that the victim was related to Ateneo shooter Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol.

“We can confirm now the man killed is not related to Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol or someone worked with his family”, said Police Colonel Pedro Martinez, commander of the Basilan police.

Yumol's father was shot and killed days after he was nabbed for the shooting of former Lamitan Mayor Rose Furigay and three others at the Ateneo De Manila University.

The Lamitan police has since issued a corrected report identifying the victim as Bhis Isniyan Asdali. —NB, GMA News
