Tanong ni Manny Pangilinan kapag inalis ang system loss charges: 'Who's going to pay for that?'

Nagpahayag ng pangamba si Manila Electric Company (Meralco) Chairman at CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan sa kung sino ang sasalo sa gastos kung aalisin ang system loss charges na kasama sa bayarin sa kuryente ng mga konsyumer.

“It's a big bill for the industry because it cuts across generation, transmission, and distribution. The bill is too big for the industry to absorb all of it. So, there's got to be that discussion. It's going to impact the entire power industry in this country,” ani Pangilinan nitong Miyerkoles.

“It is not a small matter… So, who's going to pay for that? The industry? It's going to cost tens of billions of pesos. Will you not survive?” tanong niya.

Sa kaniyang ikalimang State of the Nation Address (SONA), hinimok ni Pangulong Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ang Kongreso na amyendahan ang Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) upang itigil ang pagpasa ng system loss charges, kasama ang kaugnay nitong value-added tax (VAT), sa mga konsyumer.

Ang system loss ay enerhiya o kuryente na nawawala o nanakaw dahil sa “technical” o “non-technical” factors.

Giit ni Marcos, hindi dapat bayaran ng konsyumer ang enerhiyang hindi naman nagamit ng mga tao.

Ayon sa Department of Energy (DOE), maaaring magbigay ng pautang ang National Electrification Administration (NEA) upang matulungan ang mga electric cooperative na i-upgrade ang kanilang mga pasilidad at mabawasan ang system losses. — FRJ, GMA News
