Steam Controller: Specs, price, release date, and everything else you need to know
Valve is coming out with Steam Controller, its newest major hardware after the successful Steam Deck.
The video game company on Tuesday officially unveiled the look and the features of the Steam Controller, along with an overview of how to use it.
Specs
- Responsive, longer-lasting, next-generation magnetic thumbsticks: Aside from improved feel and responsiveness, the thumbsticks also support capacitive touch to enable motion controls.
- Two trackpads: Similar to the Steam Deck, these can be used as a mouse substitute and a radial pop-up menu.
- Gyro sensor: This allows users to move the controller around for input.
- Four grip buttons: Located at the back, the buttons are customizable and can be toggled on and off.
- Two capacity grip sensors on the handles: Called Grip Sense, the new feature enables gyro with capacitive touch.
What's in the box?
- Steam Controller Puck: A wireless transmitter and charging station in one.
- USB-A to USB-C cable
- Information book
To use the controller, plug your Puck to the PC and press the Steam button to start the device.
"Steam does all the hard work to make sure your controller performs seamlessly when playing your games," Valve said.
Valve added that it will come up with improvements with software updates.
Price and availability
The Steam Controller is set to launch on May 4. It is priced at $99.
