GSIS rolls out P4.4-B emergency loans for cyclone-hit members in Luzon

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) is offering P4.4 billion in emergency loans to an estimated 166,789 active members and pensioners in Luzon affected by recent typhoons and the southwest monsoon or Habagat.

According to the GSIS, qualified members and pensioners without existing loans may borrow P20,000, while those with outstanding balances may avail of up to P40,000. The loans are payable in 36 equal monthly installments at an annual interest rate of 6%, subject to existing GSIS policies.

The loan program is available to 65,737 members and pensioners in Pampanga; Calumpit, Bulacan; and Mangaldan and Dagupan City, Pangasinan. Qualified applicants may apply until September 13, 2026.

Some 1,964 members and pensioners in Sta. Barbara may also apply until September 18, while those in Hagonoy, Bulacan, and Masinloc, Zambales may apply until September 20.

Another 94,750 eligible members and pensioners in Cavite and Rodriguez, Rizal may apply until November 12 and November 16, respectively.

The loans are available to members who have no due and demandable GSIS loan; are not on unpaid leave; have paid at least three months of premiums in the past six months before applying; have no pending administrative or criminal case; and have a monthly take-home pay of at least P5,000 after deductions.

Old-age and disability pensioners residing in the affected areas may also apply, provided their net monthly pension after loan amortization remains at least 25% of their basic monthly pension.

Applications can be made through the GSIS Touch mobile app, with loan proceeds credited directly to their GSIS eCard or UMID card.

Under its charter, the GSIS is mandated to ensure that its members are insured against certain contingencies in exchange for their monthly premium contributions. They are entitled to benefits such as life insurance, separation or retirement benefits, and disability benefits. — VDV, GMA News
