'Acutely unhealthy' air quality level in several NCR areas amid haze from Indonesia

Several areas in Metro Manila continue to record high concentrations of particulate matter (PM) 2.5., with "very unhealthy" and "acutely unhealthy" air quality levels logged on Tuesday, September 1.

According to the latest monitoring by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) as of 10 a.m., "acutely unhealthy" air quality is recorded in 11 stations in the capital region:

• Las Piñas
• Malabon City
• Mandaluyong
• Manila
• Marikina (Parang)
• Muntinlupa (Filinvest City)
• Parañaque (Don Bosco)
• Quezon City (Ateneo)
• San Juan City
• Taguig (TUP)
• Valenzuela

Meanwhile, "very unhealthy" air quality is recorded in Makati, Navotas, Pateros, and Quezon City (SMPH Commonwealth).

"The elevated PM2.5 may be associated with smoke and haze from ongoing fires in Kalimantan, Indonesia, transported by prevailing winds toward the Philippines," said DENR-EMB in a statement.

The DENR-EMB added that it's been monitoring air quality as well in Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa.

The agency advised the public to limit prolonged outdoor activities, especially those sensitive to air pollution.

Local government units have also urged the residents to use face mask when going outside. —AOL, GMA News
