Ombudsman Remulla rules out bid for Chief Justice post

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said Thursday that he is not interested in applying for the position of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

“I am not applying,” Remulla said when asked about reports that he is vying for the post amid the looming retirement of Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.

Remulla was at the Senate on Thursday to defend the Ombudsman’s proposed P7.2-billion budget for 2027.

He was appointed Ombudsman in October 2025 and has a seven-year term.

The Judicial and Bar Council recently began accepting applications and nominations ahead of Gesmundo’s mandatory retirement on November 6, 2026. — VBL, GMA News
