VP Sara camp receives arrest warrant over grave threats, plans bail ASAP - DILG

The lawyers of Vice President Sara Duterte have received the arrest warrant against her and are planning to post bail as soon as possible, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said on Friday.

“Their lawyers confirmed that they received the warrant and they intend to post bail ASAP,” Remulla told reporters in a message.

The Quezon City (QC) Regional Trial Court has issued an arrest warrant against Duterte over three counts of grave threats.

Bail has been set at P120,000 for each count.

In a statement, the Department of Justice said it "notes the Resolution issued today, 04 September 2026, by Branch 98 of the RTC of Quezon City denying the motion by the accused Vice President Sara Z. Duterte to defer or recall the warrant of arrest against her in the criminal case for grave threats."

"In the same Resolution, the Court found probable cause to hold the accused for trial on all three counts of Grave Threats and ordered the issuance of a warrant of arrest," the DOJ said.

"The Department respects the Court’s ruling and reaffirms its commitment to the rule of law," it added,

Duterte's lawyer said she had no intention of evading the law.

"Regardless of the question on jurisdiction, she has no intention of evading the law and will continue to exercise all her legal remedies," Duterte’s counsel, Atty. Paul Lawrence Lim said in a statement.

In early August, the DOJ filed three counts of grave threats against Duterte over her remarks that she hired an individual to kill President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and former speaker Martin Romualdez, should an alleged plot against her succeed.

The Vice President filed a motion to quash on the ground of jurisdiction, arguing that she and other impeachable officers have limited procedural immunity while in office under the 1987 Constitution.

The court held oral arguments on the motion in August.

Duterte previously said that her remarks were "maliciously taken out of logical context."

She also clarified that her "assassination" statement was not a threat, saying she only highlighted the alleged threat to her security. –NB, GMA News
