Stranded Filipino tourists in Dubai share how the Middle East conflict felt

A second repatriation is being finalized this week, according to Ericson Reyes, president of Filipino Social Club (FILSOC), an aggrupation of various Filipino  organizations in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

“The Filipino Social Club (has) just received word from our DMW official that another round of repatriation is scheduled for (this) week,” he told FILSOC members in a Whatsapp message.

Dubai airport gradually resumes flights after nearby drone fire

A "drone-related incident" sparked a fuel tank fire near Dubai airport on Monday and disrupted travel, as Iran maintained its Gulf attacks, though authorities said flights were gradually resuming.

"Flights to and from DXB are gradually resuming to selected destinations, following the temporary suspension implemented as a precautionary measure," Dubai Airports said in a statement on X.

Oil prices set to rise again amid staggered hikes

Pump prices are set to increase again this week following fuel price adjustments triggered by ongoing tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

On Monday, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced the following projected fuel price adjustments for the period of March 17 to 23:

Diesel: P20.40 to P23.90 per liter

Gasoline: P12.90 to P16.60 per liter

Kerosene: P6.90 to P8.90 per liter

Trump accuses Iran of using AI to spread disinformation

SAN FRANCISCO — US President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Iran of using artificial intelligence as a “disinformation weapon” to misrepresent its wartime successes and support.

“AI can be very dangerous, we have to be very careful with it,” Trump said to reporters on Air Force One shortly after he made a post on his Truth Social platform where he accused Western media outlets without evidence of “close coordination” with Iran to spread AI-generated “fake news.”

PISTON to hold nationwide transport strike on March 19, eyes P5 fare hike

Transport group PISTON on Monday announced a nationwide transport strike on March 19, Thursday, to protest against the series of fuel price hikes due to the tensions in the Middle East.

“Ngayong darating po na March 19 ay idedeklara po natin at ilulunsad po natin, hindi lamang po sa National Capital Region kundi sa buong bansa,” PISTON national president Mody Floranda said during a press conference.

Japan not yet planning Hormuz escort mission, PM Takaichi says

TOKYO — Japan does not currently plan to dispatch naval vessels to escort ships in the Middle East, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said on Monday, after US President Donald Trump called on allies to help escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.

"We have not made any decisions whatsoever about dispatching escort ships. We are continuing to examine what Japan can do independently and what can be done within the legal framework," Takaichi told parliament.

US officials predict Iran war's end soon; Tehran claims it can outlast foes

DUBAI/JERUSALEM/PALM BEACH, Florida — US officials responding to economic uncertainty over high oil prices predicted on Sunday that the US-Israeli war on Iran would end within weeks and that a drop in energy costs would follow, despite Iran's assertion that it remains "stable and strong" and ready to defend itself.

US President Donald Trump threatened more strikes on Iran's main oil export hub Kharg Island over the weekend and said he was not ready to reach a deal to end the war which has shut off the vital Strait of Hormuz and shaken up global energy markets.

PNP probes gas stations stopping operations amid fuel price hikes

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified monitoring of gasoline stations that have reportedly stopped operations amid the fuel price hikes. 

“We in the PNP fully understand the situation that gas station owners face amid the challenges brought by the situation in the Middle East,” PNP chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said on Sunday.

“But if the sudden closure is for illegal scheme, then expect police action on this matter,” he added. 

Australia will not send naval ships to help reopen Strait of Hormuz

SYDNEY — Australia will not send naval ships to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a government minister said on Monday.

"We won't be sending a ship to the Strait of Hormuz. We know how incredibly important that is, but that's not something that we've been asked or that we're contributing to," Catherine King, a member of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's cabinet, said in an interview with state broadcaster ABC.

Trump, Starmer discuss Hormuz blockage in war – UK

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke Sunday about the “importance” of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, currently blocked by Iran, the UK leader’s office said.

“The leaders discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East and the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz to end the disruption to global shipping, which is driving up costs worldwide,” a Downing Street spokeswoman said in a statement.
