DOJ to file reckless imprudence raps vs. aunt of Tacloban shooter

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday said it will file charges against the owner of the gun used in the school shooting incident in Tacloban City in June.

According to the DOJ, Tacloban prosecutors recommended the filing of charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries against Police Staff Sergeant Arla Ray Pacencia, the aunt of one of the shooters.

It said the information will be filed with the Family Court, Tacloban City Regional Trial Court.

“The recommendation follows the preliminary investigation conducted on the complaint filed by parents and students of San Jose National High School, in connection with the shooting incident involving a Child in Conflict with the Law,” it said in a statement.

“The DOJ trusts that the criminal process will proceed in accordance with the rules on due process for all parties concerned,” it added.

In late June, two minors were involved in a shooting incident at the San Jose National High School in Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City that left three individuals dead and numerous others injured.

The DOJ previously called on Congress to prioritize the passage of a law addressing nihilistic violent extremism. — RSJ, GMA News
