Aftershocks felt after magnitude 7.8 Mindanao earthquake
Strong aftershocks were reported following the magnitude 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao on Monday morning.
Residents felt the aftershocks when they rushed out of their homes and remained outdoors after the earthquake, according to a report of Super Radyo General Santos’ James Plecis.
GMA News Online has asked PHIVOLCS the number and range of magnitude of the aftershocks but the agency has yet to provide information as of posting time.
Based on PHIVOLCS latest earthquake information, several tremors were recorded in Sarangani after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake.
The strong earthquake struck offshore Sarangani on Monday morning, initially recorded at magnitude 7 with a depth of 10 kilometers.
But in a second advisory, state seismologist upgraded the magnitude to 7.8 with a depth of 33 kilometers. It was located 05.57°N, 124.98°E - 032 km S 04° W of Maasim, Sarangani.
PHIIVOLCS said tsunami waves of up to 1.4 meters were recorded at several sea-level monitoring.
Funds enough
Meanwhile, Malacañang said the government has sufficient funds to respond to the impacts of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake.
“Alam po natin na ang pondo po sa ngayon ay sapat pa para sa pagsasagawa po ng pagligtas at pag-rescue at para po maibsan ang impact ng nangyaring sakuna nitong araw na ‘to,” Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro said at a press briefing.
(We know that the funds for now are still sufficient for the response and rescue operations and to mitigate the impacts of the disaster that happened today.)
She, however, did not specify the exact amount available for the quick response funds (QRFs). — RSJ, GMA News
