At least 50 households in Pili, Camarines Sur have received catfish fingerlings and fishnets for ponds from the government.
The town is landlocked and lacks coastal areas where fish pond operations can be explored as an additional source of livelihood, according to Arvin Salvino, an agriculturist.
Catfish was chosen as the primary fish species for cultivation due to its adaptability and easier maintenance, compared to tilapia.
The program was initiated in 2022.
The Municipal Agriculture Office encourages other residents interested in operating fish ponds to inquire and seek assistance from their office.
"Nagsusunod man po kita sa obheto kang gobyerno na magkaugwa kita ning food security and food sufficiency. And aram ta man na ang pagsisira, saro sa programa kang Department of Agriculture. Kaya pig-igotan mi na makatao giraray ning asistensya sa mga fish pond owner," Salvino added.
