In Barangay Planza, San Fernando, Camarines Sur, heavy rainfall has led to flooding in at least eight homes as water accumulated rapidly.

Barangay Captain Arlene Paloma highlighted the urgent need for a drainage system to manage the flooding.

“Pag MDC meeting mi ngani, pigpaabot sa samuyang alcalde. Kundi, tig-priority mi ining sarong erosion, ining kanal digdi sa balyo. Next year, igwa na iyan budget, P2 million po ulit,” Paloma said.

The flooding is exacerbated by poor drainage, which is reportedly getting affected by the construction of a residential fence nearby.

Among those affected by the flooding is the home of German Aborde. He said water has reached knee-deep in their area.

Aborde urged his neighbor to let the local government move their fence so that proper drainage can be established.

“Dae [i]pagsagad ang kudal, magtao man ning [espasyo para sa] kale. Ta ako niyako, tugot ako dawa magdakula ang kale ta anohon ko man ang daga na iyan,” Aborde said.

The neighbor said the fence is on their property and that they cannot be the ones adjusting because building it costs a lot.

“Sinda an dapat ma-adjust, bako kami. Ta ito, lote mi ito, mahal po baga ang daga, maray kung mayaman ako,” she said.

According to initial information from Barangay Planza, the construction of a proper drainage canal is expected to begin in May 2025. The project aims to alleviate the flooding issues in the area.
