Mothers like Cynthia Bengzon brought their children to the Operation Timbang Plus program in Barangay Bonuan Gueset to check their weight, height, and overall nutrition.
Health workers assess children to determine if they are underweight, stunted (short for their age), or wasted (disproportionate height and weight).
Overweight and obese children are also monitored.
"Maganda para sa mga bata kasi para sa vitamins nila. Para hindi sila magkasakit," Bengzon said.
Bengzon's children received free vitamins and NutriPacks.
Barangay Nutrition Scholar Jesusa Vidal reminded parents that even children who appear healthy can still be at risk
“Kabilang siya sa at risk. Healthy silang tingnan pero actually, hindi sila healthy,” Vidal said.
Aside from weight monitoring, children also underwent deworming to prevent parasites from consuming essential nutrients.
"Mailabas yung worms nila para yung nutrients na kailangan ng mga bata, hindi nakakain ng worms," Kathryn Paras, a barangay health worker, said.
Operation Timbang Plus is targeting 2,337 children in the barangay to ensure they receive proper nutrition and health support.
It is conducted three to four days a week and will continue until March 2025.
