Five Asian box turtles were released into the river in Barangay Santa Margarita, Baggao, Cagayan.
This was part of efforts to protect the species and maintain ecological balance.
Authorities said the turtles were surrendered to the Alcala and Solana Community Environment Offices before being transferred to the Rogelio B. Baggayan Nature Park and Wildlife Center for proper care.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has classified the Asian box turtle as an "Other Threatened Species," meaning it faces risks due to habitat loss and illegal trade.
