A fire struck two houses in Molo District, Iloilo City, while another fire destroyed houses in the Municipality of Malay, Province of Aklan.

The fire in Zone 1, Barangay Calumpang past noontime on March 4, 2025 broke out reportedly in a house owned by the Jardinico family, according to residents.

“Pagdating ko, marami nang nasira. Kumuha kami ng mga balde. Malaki talaga ang apoy,” John Rey Subista, a resident who helped in putting out the fire, said.

Two children were reported to be inside the house when the fire broke out.

The children ages eight years old and four years old were rescued but the eight-old-year child sustained burns on the arms and on the face.

The child was rushed to the hospital.

Passageways going to the area are narrow which made the response of firefighters challenging.

With the help of residents, the fire was controlled and a wider spread was averted.

A house adjacent to the burned house of the Jardinico family was also destroyed.

A mother and her three children were in the house when the fire incident happened. It was learned that they ran immediately out of the house to safety.

“Tinawagan ako ng asawa ko na may sunog. Kaagad akong umuwi. Pagdating ko, ganito na, wala na,” said Fernando Glimer, owner of the house that was also destroyed.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Iloilo City, damages left behind by the fire reached approximately P261,000.

As of this writing, investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
