Over 17,000 individuals took the College Admission Test at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) on Luna Street, La Paz District, Iloilo City.

According to data from WVSU, over 10,000 applicants took the examination at the main campus while over 7,000 in six satellite campuses.

Long queue of examinees showed up on March 9, 2025. Despite the queues, the number of examinees is reportedly lower compared to the 21,000 recorded in 2024.

Juliana Jacildo, an examinee from Bago City in the Province of Negros Occidental, said she chose the university because of its quality education.

"Home of the topnotchers at alam kong very quality ang education dito sa West Visayas,” Jacildo said.

Amylarina Mosquera from Bugasong town in the Province of Antique said she did not mind the hot weather. She is eager, along with other hopefuls, to gain entry into her dream university.

"Dito ang aking course at dream school ko rin ito,” Mosquera said.

Several parents accompanied their children as a gesture of support.

One of them is Ralyn Fines. She said that she left their residence in the Province of Capiz as early as 3 a.m. to make sure her child would not be late for the exam.

“Sinabihan ako ng taga-doon sa amin na dito rin nag-aral na libre dito at maganda ang pagtuturo,” Fines said.

As for Rona Villamor, her child from Victorias City, Negros Occidental has long been preparing for the exam.

“Syempre taga-West the best, that's why ang anak ko gusto sa West,” Villamor said.

Of the 10,000 examinees in the main campus, only 1,300 to 1,500 will be accepted. After the entrance test, the examinees will go through an aptitude test set on the first week of April 2025.

Preparing the questionnaires took a stringent process after the issue in 2024 on alleged leakage.

“Hinigpitan namin much more so this year. We have the guidelines, and we have set the processes and nag-go through from the development construction of item and to disposal,” said Dr. Ma. Asuncion Christine Dequilla, WVSU vice president for academic affairs.
