Cats in crates and dogs in carts — this was the scene at Barangay Bacayao Norte in Dagupan City as pet owners lined up to get their furry friends vaccinated against rabies on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
Benita Salazar, a pet owner, brought her 10-year-old dog and even her pet cat to the barangay covered court for free anti-rabies shots.
“Para secured po ‘yung may-ari at ‘yung makakasalamuha nilang tao,” Salazar said.
She wasn’t alone. Rodora Flores, another pet owner, brought her three Shih Tzus — an 8-month-old pup named 'Matcha' and 4-month-old siblings 'Macmac' and 'Marie.'
“Masaya. Makulit sila sa bahay,” Flores said.
According to the Dagupan City Veterinary Office, more than 300 dogs and cats were vaccinated during the activity. The anti-rabies drive aims to protect pets and prevent rabies cases in the city.
Dr. Daniel Paolo Garcia, OIC of the Dagupan City Veterinary Office, reminded pet owners to act responsibly.
“Mag-provide ng tamang pagkain, inumin, kulungan. ‘Wag hayaan na pagala-gala. Pabakunahan at ibigay ang medical needs,” he said.
The anti-rabies campaign continues as the city vet office planning to visit all 31 barangays in Dagupan to ensure every pet gets protected.
