With the new academic year fast approaching, West Central Elementary School 1 is calling on parents and volunteers to help fix broken facilities, overgrown grass, and faulty handwashing areas as part of Brigada Eskwela 2025, which kicks off on June 9, 2025.
As of June 3, the school still faces several issues: broken restroom doors, non-functioning water taps in the handwashing stations, and busted lights and ceiling fans in classrooms.
“Hiniling ko na tayo’y tumulong para sa West Central Elementary School sa nalalapit na Brigada Eskwela… tumulong at makibayanihan sa ating paaralan,” Dr. Renato Santillan, the school’s Principal IV, said.
In Grade 1 classrooms, teachers are also dealing with poor ventilation due to busted electric fans and lighting problems.
“Ilaw, electric fan… kulang,” Lovella Cezar, a Grade 1 teacher, said.
The school plans to repaint classrooms and declog roof gutters as part of the clean-up and repair effort. Teachers have already started pre-planning meetings to prepare for the upcoming school year.
Enrollment begins June 4 and runs until June 13. The school expects to enroll over 150 kindergartners and at least 250 Grade 1 students.
“Sa Kinder, dapat by August 31, 5 years old na. Sa Grade 1, bago ang August 31 ay 6 years old na,” Santillan said.
West Central Elementary School 1 is preparing to welcome between 1,700 to 2,000 students this school year — and with community support, they hope to greet them in safer, cleaner, and better classrooms.
