A total of 50 children of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in Puerto Princesa smiled brighter on Friday, June 13, after receiving free dental care, school supplies, and treats under a special outreach program.

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Puerto Princesa City Jail Female Dormitory, together with the Philippine Dental Association (PDA) Palawan Chapter, held the activity as part of their “Kalinga sa Anak ni Juanang Nakapiit” project.

Children were given free dental education, fluoride application, tooth extractions, and toothbrushes. They also enjoyed a puppet show hosted by the City Library, received school supplies, ate sorbetes (ice cream), and met mascots from the Katala Foundation Inc.

“Witnessing the children's smiles and laughter was a powerful reminder of the importance of family bonds and community support. This outreach not only provided essential services but also reaffirmed our commitment to nurturing hope and resilience in the hearts of these young ones, despite the challenges they face,” Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, BJMP MIMAROPA Information Officer, said.

Anglo said a female PDL thanked the organizers for giving their children joy and care.

“Malaking tulong po ito sa amin. Hindi lang po ang mga anak ko ang nature, pati po ako. Salamat po sa BJMP at sa mga katuwang nilang ahensya,” she said.

The “Kalinga sa Anak ni Juanang Nakapiit” program of BJMP aims to bring families closer and help PDLs’ children feel supported and loved by the community.
