To boost fish production and support local livelihoods, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 2 distributed more than 21,000 malaga (rabbitfish) fingerlings to coastal towns in Cagayan.
A total of 21,330 fingerlings were given to fisherfolk in the towns of Buguey, Aparri, Sta. Teresita, Sta. Ana, Gonzaga, Abulug, Pamplona, Sanchez Mira, and Claveria.
According to BFAR Region 2, these areas have seagrass beds and coral reefs, ideal environments for malaga to grow and thrive.
The agency said the project aims to improve local fish supply while helping coastal communities increase their income from fishing.
