Even with regular electricity use, some Dagupan residents say they’re used to saving power, and they may soon see a bit of relief, as local energy provider DECORP reports a small drop in power generation charges.

Gillian Zabala, a resident of Barangay Pogo Chico, Dagupan City, paid her electric bill on July 4, 2025, a total of P3,600 for their household’s electricity use from May 2025 to June 2025.

She shared that her family has learned how to save electricity, especially since they use many appliances at home.

“Pag hindi na ginagamit, pinapatay na namin. Lalo na ngayong tag-ulan. ‘Yung AC (air condition) namin, inoorasan. Pag malamig na, pinapatay na,” Gillian said.

According to Dagupan Electric Corporation (DECORP), power supply in the area remains stable, especially with cooler weather helping to reduce electricity demand.

“Wala naman kaming nakikitang shortage. Dahil malamig ang panahon,” DECORP spokesperson Atty. Randy Castilan said.

From May to June, generation charges dropped by P0.23 per kilowatt hour. DECORP said the lower rate was due to cheaper prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) and reduced bilateral supply costs.

“Gawa ito ng mas murang presyo sa WESM at mababa ang cost sa ka-bilateral namin,” Castilan added.

While there’s concern that weather disturbances could damage transmission or distribution lines, DECORP said oil price hikes do not affect electricity rates strongly.

This is because their supply does not rely solely on coal-fired plants, but also includes geothermal and solar sources.

“Kung may impact sa pagtaas ng fuel doon sa rates sa kuryente, ma-mitigate ng malamig na panahon,” Castilan said.
