A video showed the panic among residents in Barangay Efigenio Lizares, Talisay City in the Province of Negros Occidental when a fire broke out at their neighbor's house.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. on July 6, 2025.
Residents took on efforts to control the fire, but an explosion sent them scampering from the area.
“Nakita ko ang apoy na lumabas. Malaki na ang apoy kaya sumigaw ako na tulungan nyo ako,” Rebecca Superio, a resident, said.
According to the Talisay City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the affected house was owned by live-in partners Mary Joy Florendo and Arnold Bado who were not around when the fire broke out.
Fire investigators surmised the fire could have started in the kitchen.
“Initial cause of fire is overheated electrical installation nila or wires sa kitchen area. Single storey ito,” said SFO1 John Stewart Mondido, chief of the Talisay City Fire Station Investigation Unit.
The house was gutted totally. The houseowner’s car was also gutted.
Damages left behind by the fire incident reached approximately P360,000.
