Did you know that Pumbaa, the warthog in the cartoon film “Mufasa: The Lion King,” has a similar species in Eastern Visayas?
In a monitoring video, a young Philippine warty pig was spotted in the forest of Ormoc City, Province of Leyte.
As the animal lives in the wild, it is referred to locally as a “baboy ihalas (iha’s)."
The young warty pig posed for a moment in front of a surveillance camera mounted in the area.
The presence of the wild pig is a proof that repopulation of “baboy iha’s” is evident in the forests of Ormoc City.
Their population is often threatened because they are being hunted for the quality of their meat.
Foresters warned the public that the hunting, killing, poaching, selling, or any other illegal activities done to protected species such as the warty pig have legal consequences.
