More than 160 Grade 3 students at Pantal Elementary School are attending classes in temporary learning spaces (TLS) as construction of a new three-story school building continues.

Since the school year began, students have been using four makeshift classrooms built by the school to ensure learning continues. Five rooms were built, but only four are currently in use.

“Ginagamit temporarily habang kinu-construct ang bagong building natin,” Editha Luna, Principal IV of Pantal Elementary School, said.

Just a few meters away from the makeshift rooms, construction workers are busy building a new three-story structure that will house 12 classrooms. The project, funded by the local government, is expected to be finished by October 2025.

Despite the current setup, teachers remain hopeful and committed.

“‘Pag natapos naman po, malaking tulong sa mga estudyante po namin, Sir,” Oliver Fernandez, Grade 3 Chairman, said.

To help with the heat, the school installed five electric fans in the temporary classrooms to provide proper ventilation. School administrators regularly check on students and teachers to make sure their needs are met.

“Lahat ng kakailanganin nila for their pagtuturo at sa mga bata ay natutugunan,” Luna added.

The Schools Division Office earlier said they are monitoring other schools in Dagupan City that are also using temporary classrooms. The goal is to ensure that students’ learning remains uninterrupted despite ongoing construction.
