Residents of Barangay Canitoan, Cagayan de Oro City have raised complaints over the poor condition of a road that has reportedly posed risks to motorists and pedestrians.
A portion of the main road has become muddy and riddled with potholes reportedly due to a road reblocking project.
The one-way traffic system implemented in the area has also made access even more difficult for vehicles.
The condition worsened with the frequent rainfall, which has caused water to pool in several sections of the road. Several motorcycle accidents have already been reported due to the unsafe road surface.
In a statement, DPWH-10 clarified that there are two separate and independent projects implemented in the area, one is by the DPWH CDO 1st District Engineering Office while the other is by the local government of Cagayan de Oro City.
According to the barangay council, the project started in September 2024 but faced several delays, mostly attributed to continuous rains in the area.
However, DPWH-10 also clarified that the project implemented by the DPWH-10 started in March 2025, not in September 2024 as claimed by the barangay council.
Barangay officials plan to summon the three contractors involved in the project to discuss the matter.
The barangay appeals to the residents affected for understanding and patience as efforts are being made to address the problem.
