Approximately 10 tons of garbage were collected during the kick-off of a weekly cleanup drive in Iloilo City.
The cleanup on all Saturdays year-round was ordered by the Iloilo City Government.
The kick-off was set on July 12, 2025.
To ensure the program will be sustained, the Local Government Unit (LGU) will deploy a monitoring team from the Office of Barangay Affairs in each district.
The LGU is also bent on purchasing additional trash bins to meet the apparent lack in barangays.
In addition, the LGU will intensify its information and education campaign on proper disposal of garbage.
The initiative is connected to the anti-dengue campaign and other diseases caused by a dirty environment.
“Siguro may major collection points where the city could provide ng trash bins but not all. Depende sa location, kung meron sa public place, maka-provide tayo ng drums,” said Engr. Neil Ravena, head of Iloilo City General Services Office.
