A sea turtle, believed to be a nesting female, was rescued in the Municipality of San Jose, Province of Antique.

The sea turtle was rescued by personnel of the Pawikan Center of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of San Jose.

The sea turtle was spotted at the seashore of Barangay Funda-Dalipe.

According to rescuers, they received information that a resident took the sea turtle.

The said resident was located, who admitted bringing the sea turtle home.

The resident turned over the animal to the rescuers who released it back to the sea.

Efren Opiña, LGU Pawikan Center in-charge, surmised that the sea turtle swam ashore to lay eggs.

“Nakuha namin at pinakawalan ko kaagad upang hindi ma-stress kasi mangingitlog pa sana ‘yon. Hindi na nangitlog dahil hinuli nila,” Opiña said.
