Barangay Tapuac in Dagupan City has moved its Material Recovery Facility (MRF) temporarily to its former location near residential and commercial areas due to ongoing construction in its current site.
Garbage collectors have assured the public that the MRF is being managed properly to avoid affecting households and businesses nearby.
Waste is stacked in an orderly manner, and precautions are being taken to control odor and hygiene.
“Ilagay sa mabuting plastik. Itali mabuti para hindi sumingaw ang amoy,” Armand Formosa, head of garbage collection, said.
About 10 tons of garbage are collected and brought to the MRF daily. Once the facility reaches capacity, the waste is transferred to a disposal site in Urdaneta City.
On average, the city delivers up to 60 tons of garbage there weekly.
Residents like Roger Camacho said they have not experienced any inconvenience so far.
“Maganda naman. Malinis... Walang problema. Hindi naman mabaho,” he said.
Barangay Chairman Sidney Lomboy said the MRF’s return will last only two months.
“Pansamantala lang 'yan, two months lang. Sa kadahilanan, yung kalsada at drainage sa pinaglipatan, ongoing yung construction,” Lomboy said.
The barangay council also plans to install CCTV cameras in alleyways to catch and discourage improper waste disposal.
“At least pag may CCTV, makikita natin yung mga iresponsable na magtatapon ng basura na hindi na-segregate,” Lombay added.
