Police officers in General Santos City took a break from their regular duties to participate in traditional Filipino games to promote camaraderie and in response to the challenge by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, General Nicolas Torre III, to prioritize physical fitness and overall well-being.

Among the games participated by hundreds of police personnel were “walk the plank,” “tug of war,” and “giant volleyball.”

For police officers, the event strengthened camaraderie within the ranks.

“This is very important sa amin to promote camaraderie among us. Other way din yung tinatawag na de-stress para ma decompress din yung stress sa aming daily challenges or pressure sa work,” General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) Spokesperson, Lt. Col. Rexor Jake Canoy, said.

GSCPO added that the activity was also in support to Torre’s directive, who earlier warned that police officers who are overweight or obese may face consequences, including possible disqualification from promotions.

“Iya tang gi-challenge nga within one year period atung BMI, mu-meet sa demand. Dili mulapas sa…kasagaran mu lapas na og 5 kilos, 10,  paingun sa 18, 20. Iya gusto within the span of pila ka months, ma-trim down na ang mga waistline sa atung mga kapulisan,” GSCPO Director, Col. Nicomedes Olaivar, said.

Police added that the sports activities also aimed to ensure that personnel remain physically fit to serve the public effectively.
