Uncollected garbage has piled up for days along the road in Purok 4, Barangay Anolid, Mangaldan, Pangasinan, causing foul smells and frustration among residents after floods prevented regular collection.
Residents are calling on their local officials to immediately collect the trash. It accumulated on the streets and even on tree branches after recent storms and floods disrupted garbage pickup.
“Hindi nahakot lahat, pero sa Friday siguro mahakot na lahat, malinis na,” Veronica Cabrera, a resident, said.
“Mabaho na. Sana mahakot na kasi matagal na rin ‘yan diyan,” Henry Rentar, another resident, added.
Barangay officials said the garbage buildup worsened due to almost two weeks of flooding brought by recent storms and the southwest monsoon.
The barangay’s garbage truck couldn’t reach the area during the floods, forcing residents to dump waste by the roadside to avoid it being carried away by floodwaters.
“Sobrang dami po talaga ng basura, even sa landfill, sobrang dami na rin. This week sana maayos,” Barangay Chairwoman Marissa Honsayco said.
Officials are now planning to create a designated garbage collection area to avoid further street-side dumping.
With clearer weather now, the barangay is reminding residents to only put out trash during the designated garbage collection day.
