A game farm owner in San Miguel town, Province of Iloilo lost at least 15 game fowls worth approximately P200,000 to thieves.
The game farm is located in Barangay Santo Niño, San Miguel.
The incident happened on August 10, 2025, but according to Queenie Cercado, owner of the game farm, it was only in the morning of August 11, 2025 when they found out that the tie-cords were cut off.
Cercado surmised that the thieves gained entry by way of the river in the vicinity.
“May gin-cut na likod sa barbed wire at ang cyclone. Matagal ko na itong inalagaan tapos kukunin lang ng iba nang hindi pinaghirapan. Lalagyan na lang ulit ng yero at secure na ulit na wala nang makakapasok,” Cercado said.
The game farm does not have a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera which makes it challenging for policemen to track down the suspects.
Later, the police have pinpointed a person of interest but withheld yet the details.
It is possible that the suspect used children to perpetrate the crime based on footprints found near the river.
“Mag-coordinate tayo sa ibang police station na may similar case. Kagabi (August 12) humingi na tayo ng pictures ng possible person of interest,” Captain Bryan Alejo, chief of San Miguel Municipal Police Station, said.
In a separate incident of theft involving game fowls, two persons were arrested in Bacolod City.
Alias “Coycoy,” 20 years old, and alias “Patrick,” 15 years old, were nabbed for allegedly stealing three game fowls in Barangay Granada.
The suspects were found sleeping in a house they sneaked into, thinking that no one lives there. The game fowls stuffed in a sack died of suffocation.
According to the police, they monitored the group of “Coycoy” for possible involvement in incidents of game fowl thefts in other areas.
It was learned that the group uses minor persons in their modus operandi.
"Ginagamit nila ang minor kasi walang criminal liability, niloloko nila. According sa ating WCPD [Women and Children Protection Desk], may mild autism ang minor,” said Captain Hazel Oropel, chief of Police Station 5.
“Patrick” was turned over to the custody of WCPD.
When “Coycoy” was asked if he leads the group, he said he was accused of being leader because he is older.
“[Sino ang lider ikaw or siya?] Siya pero ako ang mas matanda eh, kaya ako ang pinagbintangan. Walang tao sa loob. Nakatulog kami,” alias “Coycoy” said.
