Even light rain is enough to flood parts of Barangay Anolid in Mangaldan, Pangasinan, making it difficult for students to get to school without getting wet or sick.
To address the problem, barangay officials have installed paving blocks as a makeshift pathwalk in Sitio Guantang and Sitio Molina so students can avoid wading through floodwater.
The barangay also plans to include the construction of drainage canals for the two sitios in its 2026 development fund.
Some residents are also asking for temporary assistance, such as filling their area with sand, while drainage systems are still unavailable.
Sana kahit may panambak lang, mabigyan kami,” Willie Biasaga, a resident, said.
The proposal for drainage canal construction will be discussed in the barangay council’s regular session.
Meanwhile, dredging operations continue along Payas Creek, which runs through the affected barangay.
