A motorcycle-for-hire driver was injured in a rockfall incident in Barangay Manipis, an upland area of Talisay City, Cebu.
The 47-year-old driver was hit reportedly on the head past 10 p.m. on August 25, 2025.
He was traversing the Talisay-Toledo Wharf Road when another incident of rock falling from the wall of the road occurred in Sitio Bamboo, Barangay Manipis.
The driver was identified as a certain “Marcus,” a resident of Sitio Camp 6, Barangay Manipis.
Marcus plied the route at nighttime hoping to ferry passengers bound for home in upland Talisay City. By doing so, he looked forward to earning about P200 that night. Following the incident, only half of the road was rendered passable.
In the morning of Tuesday, August 26, 2025, his children were able to talk to him, but he is still under further medical observation.
Days of rain are seen to have caused the rockfall and soil erosion.
The Talisay City Council Committee on Disaster Resiliency has urged the Barangay Disaster Council to take on stringent steps that would warn residents and motorists about the risk posed by landslides and rockfalls, especially during days of rain, and traveling at nighttime.
Further, the City Government of Talisay and Barangay Manipis vowed to assist in the driver’s medical expenses.
At about noontime on August 26, 2025, the said portion of the road was already cleared of debris.
