The local government of Zamboanga City has ordered the closure of up to 69 stalls at the Bagsakan in Sta. Cruz due to repeated violations of laws and regulations.
According to the city government, the 69 closure orders served were among the 102 orders issued for stall owners in the area.
However, at least 33 owners have reportedly complied with the requirements such as payment of rental fees and renewal of permits before the orders were served.
Authorities said the 69 stall occupants violated laws and regulations repeatedly despite prior notices.
“The operation Thursday, followed the closure of 31 non- complaint stalls at the Sta. Cruz Market on August 15. In the morning, combined city government personnel padlocked 48 stalls while the rest of the orders were served in the afternoon,” the city government said.
The local government added that the closure orders were based on a city ordinance, which requires stall holders to maintain updated permits and settle dues.
“This enforcement aims to maintain orderly market operations, protect compliant stall holders and ensure fairness among stall holders,” the city government said.
