The sight of flash flood at a river in La Libertad town, Province of Negros Oriental startled residents crossing a spillway.
The level of water flowing through a spillway in Barangay Pacuan rose swiftly which posed hazard to crossing.
Individuals who are afraid of crossing the spillway were stranded on the riverbank.
According to Archer Soreño, a councilman of Barangay Pacuan, the incident surprised residents since the rain did not pour that day on September 9, 2025.
However, it was confirmed that heavy rainfall occurred in mountain barangays due to inclement weather conditions.
The barangay, Soreño said, is thankful that no one crossing the spillway at that moment was swept away when the head of the flood reached the area.
The same incident happened at Kalaskaan River in adjacent Guihulngan City.
To recall, two sisters on their way home from school were trapped in floodwaters at Kalaskaan River in Barangay Balugo days prior.
The siblings were swept away but were able to hold on to roots of a tree, and were rescued eventually by other residents.
Barangay Balugo Chairman Jeffrey de la Rita has ordered stringent monitoring to prevent residents, especially students, from crossing when the swift rise in water level was noticed.
Just like La Libertad, the water level rose suddenly sans rainfall.
Based on monitoring done by PAGASA Dumaguete City, rains brought about by a Low Pressure Area were experienced in portions of Negros Oriental.
