Works on over P34-million flood mitigation project at Dungon Creek in Barangay Dungon B, Jaro District, Iloilo City started on February 26, 2024.

Completion period indicated that the target date would have been on August 22, 2024.

However, according to the barangay, no one was working on the project for over a year, to date.

“Noong time palaging umuulan, hindi namin alam kung nagpatuloy pa sila. Kasi may nag-request na ipakuha ang temporary na drainage na access sa kabila ng creek. So, yan ang dinadaanan ng kanilang heavy equipment,” said Barangay Dungon B Councilman Roni Lacson.

The project is expected to be a solution to flooding experienced by residents in Barangay Dungon B in Jaro, and in Barangay Santa Rosa in Mandurriao District.

“Akala namin okay na, ngunit itinigil naman,” Procopio Failanza, a resident, said.

Vic Failanza, another resident, urged the contractor to finish the project.

"Dapat tapusin na dahil yan ang kanilang programa. Mas mabuting matapos na para wala na'ng problema,” Vic said.

Barangay officials have appealed to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) – Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO) to coordinate with the barangay on the status and plans on the project.

According to the website of the DPWH, the project is marked 81.49-percent complete.

GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to get the side of DPWH-ICDEO on the delay, but it has not released a statement yet, as of this writing.
